In dialogue with South Korea's mechanical engineering sector

According to domestic sources, the Gumi region in the southwest of South Korea is the country's largest industrial zone. At BMA in Braunschweig, a delegation from Gumi found a manufacturer of machinery and technology in an environment with a strong science focus.

Gumi is one of South Korea's main industrial zones. The electrical industry accounts for 33.1 % of the businesses based there, including high-tech giants such as Samsung and LG. Mechanical and plant engineering firms are particularly well represented, with a share of 38.6 %. In March 2015, the Gumi City Trade Cooperation Office opened in Wolfsburg, further strengthening the ties established in 2012 between the Korean industrial complex and VW's home city.

On 13 June of this year, a 25-strong delegation from Gumi City visited BMA's headquarters in the neighbouring city of Braunschweig, headed by its mayor Mr Nam Yoo-Chin and the President of its Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr Ryu Han-Gyu. During their tour of the production facilities, the visitors gained an insight into the manufacture of machinery and plant technology for the international sugar industry. And in the BMA Automation workshops, they caught a glimpse of the sugar industry on the cusp of the fourth industrial revolution.

Uwe Schwanke, member of the BMA Board of Directors and CTO, was delighted with the visitors from South Korea: "Science plays a major role here in Braunschweig. We very much enjoy the benefits of this location in the development of our engineering solutions. But dialogue and exchange with leading industrial regions from around the globe are just as important for us", he said.
