VDZ celebrates 125 years

Founded in 1891 at the initiative of Professor Alexander Herzfeld, the German Association of Sugar Technologists (VDZ) is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year.

Ever since its beginnings, the association has promoted research by its members into sugar chemistry and technology. Lectures and presentations are organised by the regional branches, and VDZ members come together once a year at the annual general meeting in May. This comprises a conference part, where scientific papers are presented, and social events. The VDZ currently has about 600 members.

"BMA has long had close ties with VDZ ", says Reinhold Hempelmann, head of Sales at BMA and advisory member for the upstream industry on the VDZ board. For 125 years, our two organisations have together stood for progress and innovation in sugar technology, so Happy Anniversary, VDZ!
